Calm your Nerves and Care for your Smile with Sedation Dentistry from Eccella Smiles

76132811The anticipation of going to the dentist is often—almost always—worse than actually going to the dentist. Nevertheless, if you are one of the millions of people who avoids going to the dentist because the anticipation makes your heart race and your palms sweat, the fear is real. You can, however, banish the fear. Sedation dentistry from Eccella Smiles in Jacksonville Beach, FL, will help you relax, so you can attend to your dental health without worry.
Whether your dental anxiety is triggered by the memory of a long ago run-in with a dentist you didn’t like or a treatment that was painful, Dr. W. Scott Wagner and his staff understand. We believe there is absolutely nothing wrong with medication to help you overcome anxiety. At Eccella Smiles, we offer two methods of sedation dentistry.

Oral Conscious Sedation

With oral conscious sedation, Dr. Wagner will prescribe an anti-anxiety medication for you to take at a designated time before your appointment. Once you take the medicine, you’ll need to have a friend or family member drive you to your appointment and back home. This medication will leave you feeling relaxed and calm, so you can arrive at our office and sit through your appointment without any worries. You will be conscious, so Dr. Wagner can speak to you. However, you may not remember anything about your treatment.

IV Sedation

Our periodontal/implant specialist, Dr. Brian Young, is fully licensed to provide oral sedation and IV sedation. With IV sedation, also called twilight sedation, we can reduce or increase the amount of sedation you receive while you’re in the chair, so your level of comfort is always appropriate. Some patients do drift off to sleep with IV sedation, but almost all have no memories of what happened during their appointments.
