Atlantic Beach is an active, water-forward community. Dental emergencies here look different than they do in most places — knocked-out teeth from surfing and paddleboarding, broken teeth from beach volleyball, cracked crowns from grinding exacerbated by stress. Whatever brought you here, the priority is the same: get you out of pain, protect the tooth, and fix the problem properly.
What Counts as a Dental Emergency?
A dental emergency is any situation involving severe or unmanageable pain, significant tooth damage, uncontrolled bleeding, or a risk of serious infection. These aren’t situations where you wait and see — they require prompt treatment to relieve pain, save the tooth, and prevent complications from spreading.
When in doubt, call us at (904) 289-5770. We’ll help you determine how urgently you need to be seen and what to do in the meantime.
How We Handle Dental Emergencies at Eccella Smiles
Common emergencies we treat for Atlantic Beach patients:
-
✦
Severe Toothache
Intense, persistent pain often signals an abscess or deep decay. Don’t wait — infection can spread quickly. -
✦
Knocked-Out Tooth
Handle by the crown, not the root. Keep moist in milk or saliva and call us immediately — time is critical. -
✦
Cracked or Broken Tooth
A fracture exposes the inner tooth to bacteria. Common from sports, falls, and grinding. Needs same-day attention. -
✦
Lost Crown or Filling
The exposed tooth is vulnerable and often sensitive. Temporary dental cement can help — but get seen within 24–48 hours. -
✦
Dental Abscess
Painful swelling, fever, or pus near a tooth or gum requires immediate care. Infections don’t resolve on their own. -
✦
Soft Tissue Injury
Lacerations to the lips, gums, cheek, or tongue from a fall or impact. Apply pressure and call us right away.
After the emergency is resolved, we handle full restorative dentistry for Atlantic Beach patients in-house — no separate referral needed to complete the work.
What to Do Before You Reach Our Office
In a true dental emergency, getting to a dentist quickly is the priority. That said, there are a few things you can do to protect your tooth and manage discomfort in the meantime. According to the American Dental Association’s guidance on dental emergencies, if a permanent tooth is knocked out, handle it by the crown rather than the root, rinse it gently if it’s dirty, and try to place it back in the socket or keep it moist in milk until you can be seen.
For a painful toothache, rinsing with warm salt water and taking an over-the-counter pain reliever can provide some temporary relief. If there is swelling, a cold compress applied to the outside of the cheek may help. Whatever you are dealing with, our general dentistry team is just a call away and ready to guide you through the process.
Your Emergency Dental Care Partner at Eccella Smiles
Getting you out of pain and back to normal as fast as possible is our only priority in a dental emergency. We use sedation options including oral sedation for patients whose anxiety makes an already stressful situation harder — you don’t have to white-knuckle your way through emergency treatment.
Once the acute situation is resolved, we’ll walk you through what caused the problem, what treatment is needed going forward, and how to prevent a recurrence. We also offer full restorative dentistry for Atlantic Beach patients to complete any work after an emergency visit.
