Emergency Dentistry in Sawgrass

Get fast, reliable care with expert emergency dentistry in Sawgrass, where urgent dental issues are treated with precision and compassion. From severe toothaches and broken teeth to unexpected injuries, we focus on relieving pain, restoring function, and protecting your smile with prompt, effective treatment.

Dental emergencies arrive without warning. A sharp pain that jolts you awake, a tooth knocked loose during a weekend game, or a crown that gives way mid-meal—these moments are more common than most people expect. According to the CDC, tooth disorders accounted for nearly 1.9 million emergency department visits annually between 2020 and 2022, most of which would have been handled more effectively—and affordably—in a dental office.

At Eccella Smiles, we offer same-day emergency dental appointments for Sawgrass patients who need urgent care. Dr. Shelby Sox, DMD, and our team understand how stressful these moments can be, and we work to get you seen, comfortable, and on a clear path to recovery as quickly as possible. When a dental emergency strikes, you should not have to wait days—or end up in a hospital ER.

What Counts as a Dental Emergency?

Not every twinge requires an emergency call—but many dental problems become significantly more complex when left untreated. Any situation involving severe pain, visible damage, swelling, or signs of infection should be treated as urgent. Here is a look at what we routinely handle on a same-day or urgent basis:

  • Severe toothaches: Intense, persistent pain that does not respond to over-the-counter relief may signal infection, nerve damage, or abscess.
  • Knocked-out tooth: Time is critical. The first 60 minutes give the best chance of saving the tooth—call us immediately.
  • Cracked or chipped teeth: Fractures can expose the inner pulp and lead to serious complications if left untreated.
  • Tooth sensitivity to hot or cold: Sudden or severe sensitivity can indicate a cracked tooth, exposed root, or failing restoration that needs prompt attention.
  • Lost or broken dental work: A damaged or missing crown, bridge, or filling leaves sensitive tooth structure exposed and vulnerable.
  • Loose tooth: A tooth that has shifted or become loose following trauma or from advanced gum disease warrants urgent evaluation.
  • Dental abscess: Swelling, fever, and throbbing pain are warning signs of an infection that can spread rapidly if untreated.
  • Broken denture or dental appliance: Do not attempt to repair it yourself. Remove the appliance and contact us—we will advise on the safest next steps.
  • Soft tissue injuries: Lacerations or injuries to the gums, lips, or cheeks may require immediate attention to control bleeding.

Whatever brought you in, you can count on us to respond with both skill and compassion from the moment you arrive.

Why Prompt Care Makes All the Difference

Knowing how to manage a dental emergency in the moments before you reach our office can meaningfully affect your outcome. Here is what to do for the most common situations:

  • Knocked-out tooth: Handle it by the crown only—never touch the root. Rinse gently with water, then try to reposition it in the socket. If that is not possible, keep it moist in milk, saliva, or between your cheek and gum. Call us immediately and come in without delay.
  • Toothache or swelling: Rinse with warm saltwater to clear any debris. Apply a cold compress to the outside of the cheek—do not apply heat. An over-the-counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) can help manage discomfort until you arrive. If swelling is interfering with breathing or swallowing, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.
  • Soft tissue bleeding: Apply a moist gauze pad to the area and hold firm pressure for at least 15 minutes. If bleeding does not stop or is severe, go to an emergency room.
  • Lost or loose crown: A small amount of dental cement or toothpaste applied to the inside of the crown can temporarily reattach it until you see us. Bring the crown with you if reattachment is not possible.
  • Dental abscess: Rinse with warm saltwater and avoid pressing on the area. Contact us right away—this is an infection that needs professional treatment, not home management.

For any dental emergency involving trauma to the head, jaw, or neck, or if you are having difficulty breathing or swallowing, seek emergency medical care first. For everything else, call us directly—our Sawgrass patients always come first.

Revitalize your smile with expert care in Sawgrass, where gentle, personalized treatment helps correct bite misalignment and improve your comfort, confidence, and overall oral health.

What to Do Before You Arrive

Knowing how to manage a dental emergency in the moments before you reach our office can make a meaningful difference in your outcome. For a knocked-out tooth, handle it by the crown rather than the root, rinse it gently with water, and try to keep it moist by placing it in milk or between your cheek and gum. For an abscess, rinse your mouth with warm salt water and avoid putting pressure on the area.

If you have experienced trauma to your mouth or jaw alongside a dental injury, or if you are having difficulty breathing or swallowing, please seek emergency medical care immediately. For dental concerns without life-threatening complications, our office is the right place to call. Our services for cracked and chipped teeth and other urgent concerns mean you do not have to navigate these moments alone.

Amazing experience with Dr. Sox and Erin! I had a traumatic experience with a previous dentist that left me pretty shaken up for any type of dental procedure. Dr. Sox and Erin were patient and understanding and helped me throughout the whole process. Can't wait to see Dr. Wagner next week for my TMJ work-up.

As a retired dentist who recently moved to Jacksonville, I knew what I was looking for in a new dental practice for my family. I am very glad I found Eccella and want to share my experience. First, the facility is modern and clean. Second, the equipment is the latest and best for patient care. Lastly, the doctors and entire staff make you feel like family. The care I received was top-notch, appropriate and delivered gently. I normally don’t post reviews but this practice earned it!

Dr. Scott Wagner is the most competent dentist I have ever had, his knowledge of neuromuscular Dentistry combined with his aesthetic skills produce a superlative result that is comfortable and functional. I’ve had a lot of bad experiences in the past, and I’m picky but this office is a 10 out of 10.

I can’t say enough good things about Eccella Smiles. I have loved the staff, they are like good friends the last 6 years of going here. Kendall and LJ have always been so helpful with coordinating my schedules and working with me every step of the way through the tough times. They always have the best attitude day in and day out and work so hard to accommodate everyone. 10/10 have recommended all of my friends here, the entire staff here is so caring and friendly. Cannot say another good things about them. Thank you for all you guys do to help!! 🙂
